What is “Heart Coherence” and How Does it Effect Us?
“The pump action of the heart may be the least of what the heart can do.” (Gregg Braden, 2024) Scientist have discovered there are 40,000 sensory neurites in the heart. They are calling it the “Little Brain in the Heart”. These neurites think and remember independently from the cranial brain. While the cranial brain sends messages to the body to activate systems, it receives instructions from the heart. Thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, are messages sent from the heart to the brain.
When an event happens consciously or subconsciously, whether in the womb, as a child, or as an adult, and we don’t have the tools to deal with it, the body interprets the event as trauma. We store those events in the body until we have the tools to deal with them. If these stored traumatic events are not acknowledged and worked through, they eventually show up in the body as dis-ease or dis-order.
Cognitive or “talk” therapy, formal or informal, addresses the memories in the cranial brain, but does not resolve experiences stored in the heart brain. The heart’s memory is rarely acknowledged, and rarely resolved.
When we are able to acknowledge and heal the heart, we harmonize the heart neurites with the cranial neurites, creating heart coherence. When the heart and mind are in coherence, a switch happens. We are put in the driver’s seat and are able to self-regulate, creating more harmony, resilience, peace, and joy in our lives.
The @HeartMath Institute validates the effects of heart coherence in laboratory science, utilizing evidence-based meditation practices and biofeedback tools to measure HRV (Heart Rate Variability). Increasing the HRV creates more balance and resilience in our mind and body, and the ability to live a more holistically healthy life.
